Public Meeting 9th April – How is austerity the answer and is TTIP the last straw?

Invited Candidates Include
Charlotte Leslie MP (Cons), Justin Quinell (Green),
Darren Jones (Lab), Clare Campion-Smith (LibDem), Michael Frost (Ukip)

Thursday April 9th 7.30pm

Greenway Centre, Doncaster Road, Bristol BS10 5PY

What is the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP)? TTIP is a massive trade deal currently being negotiated in secret by the European Union and the United States. Many governments are hoping this will create new jobs and help to revive their economies. Unlike other European countries, Britain has not asked for its health service to be exempt from TTIP.

Is this a threat to our democracy? Yes, because corporations want the right to sue governments under international law if they take any decision which limits their profits! This means that any future British government would be unable to reverse the privatisation of the NHS, because they would face so many huge compensation claims. Almost 85% of GPs think the NHS will be privatised within 10 years and 45% of GPs think it will happen within 5 years. If this happens, everyone will have to buy personal health insurance. Can you afford it?

The Greater Bristol Alliance is new – ( It is an ‘umbrella’ under which local action and pressure groups work together to fight for us and against Big Power and Big Business. We are not allied to any political party. We want a political system that works for and not against us.

The Bristol North West Constituency Public Meeting is our opportunity to get heard and to grill all our candidates about if and how they will fight for us when in power.

I am election agent for Anne Lemon, who is standing as the Trade Union and Socialist Coalition (TUSC) candidate for the parliamentary seat of Bristol North West. Anne would very much like to be involved in your hustings event next week. Anne is a strong opponent of all forms of public sector deregulation, including TTIP. She is also on the National Executive of the National Union of Teachers, and would be very pleased to talk about the threats of privatisation, deregulation and academisation of education.

Please let me know if you would like to offer her a place at the Hustings.

    Anne’s Facebook page is below.

      Hi Martin,

By a strange coincidence I have been discussing this with our chair, Alison Allan, and have just sent Anne an e mail inviting her. I did e mail her a few weeks ago, but I am not sure if she got it. We’d love her to come and please see next e mail.

      Many thanks,

Great that Anne is able to join us!
